Established in 2019, Buttercup Film Productions is an independent film production company dedicated to telling compelling, thought-provoking stories. Our work includes insightful documentaries and character-driven films spanning comedy, drama, thriller, and Western genres.

At the heart of our company, is a passion for the Old West and the stories that shaped it. Too often, these stories have been romanticized, rewritten, sensationalized, or altered until the truth of the people, places, and events behind them is lost.

Our goal is not to reinvent the Old West through a modern lens, but to bring audiences closer to the era as it truly was. Drawing on more than 50 years of historical research into the 19th century, and a deep commitment to historical authenticity, we strive to tell the stories of real people and real events with honesty, grit, and respect for the historical record.

At the helm of Buttercup Film Productions are women writers, producers, and directors with stories to tell and a distinct voice behind the camera. We are especially passionate about creating films with strong, complex female leads, women with strength, flaws, determination, and resilience. Whether historical or fictional, we believe female characters should be at the center of their own stories, not simply supporting characters in someone else’s.

This is particularly important in our Western films, where women have too often been relegated to the sidelines or reduced to familiar stereotypes. We seek to tell stories in which women are an integral part of the world they inhabit, while remaining true to the realities of the period rather than imposing modern sensibilities upon the past.
